Matein Travel Laptop Backpack Review: An Excellent Selection
In this Matein travel laptop backpack review, I’ll get into every nook and cranny of this bag. Although it did have a few minor hiccups, I'm impressed. Thinking about how to find an attractive bag that fits your laptop? Throughout this Matein backpack review, I'll show you.
Do You Need A Backpack for Your Laptop?
Laptop backpacks don’t serve as a bag for your laptop only. Rather, these bags nowadays have many purposes. You can carry almost all the necessary accessories as well as documents in these bags. Moreover, laptop bags have the best designs you can get for a backpack. They also have sturdiness because companies make them for laptops. So you can’t avoid it.
Why Choose This One?
This bag is perfect for school and travel with its comfortable fit and many pockets. it comes in two different sizes with an anti-theft pocket. You can accommodate everything you need no matter what you need to carry. These make the Matein Travel Laptop Backpack one of the best backpacks on the market. An additional USB port, and a great design at an affordable price. makes it even more appealing.
Features
A lot of different style options make this laptop backpack appealing to me. Variety, convenience, and simplicity go hand in hand. Even though it can do so much, it seems so simple on the surface.
This laptop backpack offers the traditional convenience of carry-ons. It also provides high-tech features. A well-designed bag can make a difference. Finding your items quickly and easily, and losing time through misplacing an item, it's up to you.
In the first place, let me mention something. People know Matein for providing quality backpacks and travel bags since 2009.
Colors
There are so many colors to choose from when choosing a laptop bag from Matein. A backpack makes me unique in my style. You can choose from so many options that you won't have to choose between them.
Okay, enough joking around. The following colors are available:
Blue
Brown
Grey
Red
Camouflage
Charcoal Black
Grey and Black Camouflage
Size Variations
The 15-inch laptop version of this backpack is the most popular one. But it also has a 17-inch variant, which is a bit bigger, and its laptop part opens entirely. Also, TSA-approved is the 17-inch version, so you won't need to pull your laptop out of it during security.
Dimensions
Upon packing full, the 15-inch variant measures 18 inches high, 13 inches wide, and up to 9 inches deep. As long as you don't overpack it, you can use it as a personal item on airplanes.
Due to its height and width, the 17-inch version is too big for a personal item. The height of the piece is 19 inches and the width is 13.8 inches. They might let you carry it on sometimes as a personal item, but sometimes they might ask you to take it on as a carry-on.
Weight
It weighs around 2.2 pounds, not 1.5 pounds as it states in the product description. Even so, it's still a very lightweight personal item.
Materials
Polyester is the exterior fabric of the Matein laptop backpack. This backpack's fabric isn't the strongest, but you have to keep in mind how affordable it is. Yet, Nylon is a better material. it isn't commonly seen in affordable backpacks due to its high price though.
According to customers, it still looks new even after almost a year of daily use. The backpack is in excellent condition Even at the bottom where it touches the ground. It is pretty amazing for a backpack costing 29-something dollars.
I must point out that the fabric is not water-resistant. They even show a picture showing where water doesn't soak, in the product description.
Realistically, it's quite different. Pouring something on it wets the fabric. When light rain pours for 20 minutes, it will soak the inside.
Stitching
This backpack's stitching, according to users, is unlikable. A few threads were loose, and, the stitching was not great.
For a year, one of the padding panels on the back started to come loose. There were only a few threads at first, but gradually it became unattractive.
Near the top handle, the stitching isn't great either. Apart from that, the stitching is fine everywhere else.
Finally, to sum up, after a year, one padding panel on the back had snapped off. The stitching didn't look great.
Zippers
The zippers are now the subject of discussion.
Matein used metal zippers in all compartments. Unzipping them is fairly easy and they seem to be well constructed.
you can lock Zippers in both the main compartment and the laptop compartment. Travelers should take advantage of this. Theft is a pretty common occurrence on the road. The best thing you can do to keep them safe is to lock them with a small lock.
Zippers dangle around a lot, which is the only dislikable aspect. The metal zipper heads make a sound when you jump or move the bag with your hands. they don't make a sound when you're walking normally though. I don't think it's a big deal.
Laptop Part
In the 15-inch variant, there is a padded laptop sleeve for laptops up to 15 inches in size. There is some padding, but it is not great. You have to be careful when using the bag because the two corners on top are not padded.
Additionally to the laptop compartment, you can put a tablet in a smaller sleeve. You can even keep a few folders of documents inside.
Main Part
I'd like to take a look at the deceptively spacious main compartment now.
The main compartment of this backpack seems small at first glance, but it can accommodate a lot of stuff. In my opinion, the capacity of the bag is around 30-40 liters. There is enough space for one large bag of groceries.
Apart from that, there isn't much to it in the main compartment. It also has a large compartment on the other side. This makes it perfect for storing a notebook.
Front Pockets
You can organize your smaller items in the front pockets of this backpack.
Since it has several smaller compartments inside, you may use the largest one the most. The left pocket can store your mouse. The middle pocket can store a pen or two, and the right pocket can hold your earbuds. A zippered pocket allows you to store spare change, and a keychain allows you to hold your keys.
The bag has two more pockets on the front. There is no organization features inside these two pockets.
Side Pockets
Additionally, there are mesh pockets on both sides. You can zipper them. These are perfect for holding an umbrella or a water bottle.
The Anti-Theft Pocket
Moreover, the bottom padding conceals an anti-theft pocket on the back. Traveling or walking in crowded places, you can use it quite often to store your wallet and passport. You can just relax instead of constantly checking your pockets.
It keeps an overstuffed wallet off your back. It's done by concealing the anti-theft pocket behind a padding panel.
How Does The Empty Backpack Look?
It is easy to keep the shape of this backpack even when it is empty. The backpack is usually unable to slide down when there is just a laptop in there.
In my opinion, backpacks should be able to look just as good when they are empty as when they are full.
Shoulder Straps and Padding
Here's what this bag has to offer comfort.
Soft panels cover three points of padding on the back. There are also fully padded shoulder straps on both sides. Wearing the bag is quite comfortable because of this.
Yet, if you put something irregularly shaped in there, it will poke your back. Laptops, yet, are fine. It's because they're placed between your back and the main compartment.
When traveling, both shoulder straps are adjustable. Each has three places for attaching items.
Rear Strap
To secure the backpack on top of a suitcase, it has a rear strap. It is very convenient to not have to carry a backpack on your back if you travel a lot.
Multi-panel Airflow System
Its airflow ventilation fabric, on the back, is also something I like about this bag. If it's a warm day, you'll stay cool with this.
Handles
Matein laptop backpacks feature two handles on top.
When you pick up the bag from the ground, you can use the padded one. Lastly, the hanger allows you to store the bag when not in use. Looks like they stitched the main handle well, and it won't come loose soon.
USB Port
Additionally, this bag has a built-in USB charger.
From the interior to the exterior of the power bank, there is only a wire. With the exterior port, you can charge your devices from your power bank. You will have to place it in the compartment with the power bank pocket. Then connect the power bank to the USB cable and you're ready to go.
Power banks aren't included in the bag, so you'll need to buy them separately.
Warranty
Matein laptop backpacks have a lifetime warranty.
This is not mentioned anywhere on their Amazon listing. There is a small label on the backpack. It instructs you to register for their lifetime warranty on their official website.
But, I wouldn't rely on the warranty. The product is supposedly guaranteed against defects for life. any defects would be obvious after a few uses though. "Lifetime return policy" would be more accurate.
The Amazon reviews state that the warranty is virtually useless, so I wouldn't depend on it.
Pricing
I think the Matein laptop backpack is one of the best purchases on Amazon. Though it has a useless warranty and weak stitching.
With its retail price, it's a really good deal. This is the number one laptop backpack on Amazon for a reason with a 4.8-star average review score. Despite a year of daily use, it has held up well, and it has a lot of useful features.
There is no doubt that you can extend the life of the back panel by two years if you fix the stitching. Owning this backpack would cost roughly 10$ per year if you had to replace it every three years. I don't know of any better deal than that.
Although, due to its cheap price, you have to deal with occasional issues. You might be better off investing in a well-made backpack that costs over 100 dollars. So you won't have to worry about quality problems.
Pros
+ Matein travel laptop backpacks are for travel. Featuring durable padding, all the luggage straps, and the perfect capacity. You won't have to worry about damaging your laptop.
+ Choosing a cheap laptop backpack from a range of colors makes you feel like you're on a more personal level. When you buy a black bag, only to find out everyone at the airport has one as well, there's nothing like it!
+ You can charge your phone and other USB devices on the go thanks to the built-in USB port on this backpack.
Cons
– Customers complained that the backpack's water bottle holders were too small sometimes. They couldn't hold larger reusable water bottles.
– A few reviewers said the backpack is a bit more square than it appears from the pictures.
